Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation Inc.

Building Laboratory Excellence

Request for LIMS Information

December 16, 2002

Dear CALA members,

We are a federal government aquatic research lab. We operate two labs, one permanent and one field lab and between them we are accredited in 25 tests and will apply for up to 15 more in the future.

We are accredited in pH (2 tests), conductivity (2 tests), alkalinity, total phosphorous (2 tests), nitrate (2 tests), nitrate+nitrite (2 tests), total nitrogen (2 tests), ammonia (2 tests), dissolved organic carbon, silica, chloride, sulphate, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chlorophyll-a, particulate (suspended) carbon and particulate (suspended) nitrogen.

We are in the market for a new LIMS that will handle up to 50 tests with all that that entails. We are interested in hearing from labs, about their current LIMS, that have similar capacity. We would like to know about your LIMS' strong points as well as what you perceive to be its weaknesses. Make and supplier are definitely of interest. The more we know about other peoples' systems the better we will be able to determine specifications for our new system.

If you are willing to spend a few minutes to share information it will be much appreciated.
