Developing Training Partnerships (From Within the CALA Membership)
Many CALA members and other non-member experts have experience and offer services as trainers. They are also technically competent in specific areas of environmental science and related topics. CALA Training Services wishes to make use of this potential pool of talent, in order to realise two important benefits.
- Make use of available and known talent in the delivery of training to CALA members at reasonable costs, and
- Provide fair and equitable access to CALA member training for qualified CALA members within the context of a member-driven Training Service.
External training service providers can also provide CALA and its members with much needed expertise not available within the association or its membership. CALA wishes to establish the nature and scope of the relationship that defines the mutually beneficial work undertaken by these external training service providers.
Scope
The CALA Training Service Partnership Program includes CALA and all members and non-members of CALA that have been qualified by CALA to deliver training services on behalf of the association to both member and non member organisations and persons.
Authority
The CALA Training Service Partnership Program is established and maintained by CALA Training Service, under the direction of the CALA Board of Directors and the CALA Executive Director. The program is administered by the CALA Manager, Quality and Training.
Objectives
The objectives of the CALA Training Service Partnership Program are:
- To recognise the competence of persons and organisations in the delivery of training services to CALA members.
- To formally document such recognition in a manner that can be communicated to the organisations and persons concerned and to the CALA membership.
- To ensure that the process of qualifying CALA Training Service Partners is open, transparent and equitable.
Criteria
Subject Matter Expertise. All CALA Training Service Partners must be experts in the subject matter they deliver on behalf of CALA. Such expertise is determined by the documented experience of the Partner, or by a CALA committee of subject matter experts, or by the formal affiliation of the Partner with another outside system of recognition deemed acceptable to CALA, or by a combination of these methods.
Skill in the Delivery of Training. All CALA Training Service Partners must be able to deliver facilitated training to others in a manner which is interactive, considers participant needs, and aims to meet training objectives developed jointly with the participants. These skills are demonstrated by Partners through the documented experience of the Partner, or through an on-site evaluation of skills by CALA, or by the formal affiliation of the Partner with another outside system of recognition deemed acceptable to CALA, or by a combination of these methods.
CALA Codes of Conduct. All CALA Training Service Partners have signed the CALA Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality Code and have agreed to abide by the CALA Code of Ethics.
CALA Training Service Partner Agreements. All CALA Training Service Partners enter into agreement with CALA on the delivery of CALA-sponsored training each time they agree to deliver training on behalf of CALA. The agreement consists of a standard Training Contract Assignment form (.pdf) and the Terms and Conditions of the CALA Training Service Partnership (.pdf). These documents provide for, amongst others, the following:
- The Partner invoices CALA following completion of each training session.
- CALA covers the cost of travel and accommodation of Partners in accordance with published CALA guidelines which are drawn from Canadian Federal Government travel guidelines published by Treasury Board.
- CALA markets all CALA-sponsored training and registers all participants to this training.
- CALA reproduces all training materials to be used during CALA training.
- Participants evaluate the performance of all CALA training facilitators, including Training Service Partners.
