New CAEAL Proficiency Testing Parameters
During the past year many labs have been accredited for newly-regulated drinking water parameters, causing CAEAL to look for ways of providing the associated proficiency testing (PT). In July 2000, Ontario regulated 98 drinking water parameters of which only 28 were covered by CAEAL PT. In 2001 CAEAL added another 7, and in the November 2001 Program Description we announced an additional 9 volatile organic parameters to be added in 2002.
We are now announcing the addition of a further 33 pesticides parameters (in 4 test groups) that will be shipped for the first time in June 2002, and another 5 parameters (in 4 test groups) that we will attempt to add (depending on numbers of labs subscribing) in January 2003. With these additions the CAEAL program will be shipping 77 of the 98 regulated parameters by mid-2002. See the appended table for a full list of the new pesticide parameters.
Needless to say, these latest parameters are more difficult and more expensive for CAEAL to purchase, indeed they are all more expensive than any of our existing test groups. In order to ensure the lowest possible cost for participating labs, CAEAL conducted an extensive RFP and the Board decided to reduce the normal increment for program coordination and data analysis and to phase-in the test groups over a year.
The June 2002 test groups (with number of parameters in the group) and their prices are:
C22: OP Pesticides (18) - $790.
C23: OCI Pesticides (4) - $490.
C24: Aryloxy Acid Pesticides (7) - $630.
C25: Phenolic Compounds (4) - $735.
