Updates - Accreditation Program
On November 29, 2017, the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 was published. This means that by November 29, 2020, all laboratories must be accredited to this new standard.
For CALA's accredited laboratory community this means that your transition to the new standard is directly related to the timing of your reassessment. Any laboratory being assessed after September 1st, 2018, will be assessed to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Laboratories being assessed between January and August 2018 will have the choice of being assessed to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard or the 2005 version.
Although you may have the choice, CALA would like to encourage an early start to the transition process. This will avoid reduced assessment time lines, increased visits or an incomplete reassessment by the due date and subsequent risk of suspension.
In recognition of these tight deadlines, laboratories with a reassessment in the 2018 calendar year that are assessed to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 will have 60 calendar days to address any non-conformances; the 45-day timeframe remains the same for laboratories assessed to ISO/IEC 17025:2005.
To support our customers through the transition and ensure a smooth-flowing business process, we would encourage you to begin thinking and planning for the transition as early as possible and move forward in that direction. There are a number of resources available to help you. The following documents can all found on the ISO/IEC 17025 Transition page of the CALA web site:
