Highlights of the 2007 Annual General Meeting
|
The recipient of the 2007 Serge Villard Award is Mr. Robert Lessard. Robert is the Quality Assurance Manger for Bodycote Norwest. He became a CAEAL assessor in 1997, has conducted 16 volunteer assessments and is currently a member of the CAEAL Advisory Panel and the CAEAL Program Committee. Robert is active on both CAEAL committees, and provides sound, technical, objective advice in a timely manner. Congratulations, Robert! ![]()

On behalf of Robert Lessard, Colleen Cotter, CAEAL Assessments Manager, accepts the 2007 Serge Villard Award from James Doull, CAEAL Vice-President (on right). |

This recipient of the 2007 Don LaBerge award is Dr. Michael Booth. Michael was Section Head, Analytical Services at Ontario Hydro Research Division from 1980-1993. He became a CAEAL assessor in 1994, has conducted 69 assessments (volunteer and contract) and is currently a member of the CAEAL Advisory Panel. The development and on-going improvements to the audit software is a significant contribution to the accreditation program. The audit software has facilitated assessors writing reports during the site assessment, and the professional report given to the laboratory is a good reflection on the program. The use of the software has resulted, no doubt, in significant cost-savings for CAEAL because a staff person does not have to type handwritten reports into the database. In his role on the Advisory Panel, Michael reviews and votes on ballots in a timely fashion, and based on comments received back, it is evident that he is reviewing them in a thorough manner. When asked for advice on disputes or technical issues, Michael provides good advice in a timely manner. Congratulations, Michael!

SPECIAL AWARD (Lifetime membership) Dr. Neil McQuaker was a member of the original CAEAL Board of Directors, then was hired as a full-time consultant by CAEAL to head the technical program, and in 1994 was hired as a member of staff to supervise CAEAL’s program operations which were centred in Vancouver. Neil received a CAEAL Recognition Award in 1999 for his role in establishing our programs. He left CAEAL employment in 2001 as CAEAL was consolidating its operations in Ottawa, and has maintained an Individual Membership ever since. |
