Karen L. Dodds, ADM Environment Canada - slide deck

Dr. Dodds is the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Science and Technology Branch at Environment Canada. Dr. Dodds has held senior positions in many Federal departments and has served on a number of national and international bodies and boards.

Laboratory Training Effectiveness (2 day)

Course Description:
this 2-day course is for anyone in a lab who has the responsibility of training or coaching other lab personnel. The objective of this course is provide the skills necessary to train and/or coach others and to assess whether the person they are training is able to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge. SERGE VILLARD AWARD

The recipient of the 2011 Serge Villard Award is Ms. Diane Wingett.

Serge Villard was one of the three originating directors for the Association and volunteered in various capacities with the Board from 1989-1999.  This award, in his memory, is presented to one of the volunteer assessors who have made a special contribution to CALA. 

Diane is the Quality Control Co-ordinator at SGS Environmental Services in Lakefield, Ontario.  Diane earned her B.Sc. from Trent University and a Biotechnology Diploma from St. Lawrence College. 

She has been an assessor with CALA since 2000, and since that time, has conducted 25 assessments – 10 of them as a Lead Assessor.  She has also been a member of the CALA Advisory Panel since 2009.

Above and beyond the number of volunteer hours that Diane has put in for CALA, a very special contribution to CALA is Diane’s professionalism and demeanour.  Feedback from both her assessment team colleagues and assessed laboratories are outstanding, and indicate that Diane is very good ambassador for CALA.

DON LABERGE AWARD

The recipient of the 2011 Don LaBerge award is Environment Canada.

This award is made annually in honour of Don Laberge and was established in 2006 to recognize lifetime achievement in the service of CALA. Traditionally this award has been presented for individual lifetime achievements and commitment to the work of CALA.
Environment Canada will be the first-ever organizational recipient of this Award and Assistant Deputy Minister Dr. Karen L. Dodds from Environment Canada, was present to receive this honour.

In making our choice, CALA considered the multiple efforts, by multiple individuals, over more than two decades of CALA history, all supported and encouraged by Environment Canada. As a result, we unanimously concluded that Environment Canada was the perfect candidate to be recognized with this award.

From the very inception of CALA, Environment Canada has been of tremendous support and service to our organization. Environment Canada for more than two decades has consistently supported a total of more than 42 members of their laboratory staff in a volunteer capacity acting as:

• accreditation assessors,
• members of the CALA Board of Directors,
• members of the CALA Accreditation Council
• members of the CALA Advisory Panel
• members of the CALA Program Committee

And in addition to this, since 1991 Environment Canada has serviced CALA as a true partner in the delivery of what is arguably the best Proficiency Testing (PT) program anywhere in the world.
